Her Children by Irina Shuranova ~ An ARC book Review
Her Children, is a work of fiction that plays on the soul and pokes at you to think. It begs you to dive deep into what you make of the story. For me it was a profound love story that carried so much loss because you can not have love without loss. Its a scale to be balanced.

Irina has this unique talent of putting a great spin of something that feels and reads like traditional folklore. She did it in her first book, The Ivory Pinion and she did it again in Her Children. You'll love this book if you are a lover of traditional tales.
Her Children features tropes about love and loss, loss of a child, loss parents, loss of love. It also speaks of profound love for parents, first love, and love in faith. All of these have a deep impact on the story.
For how short this story is, I can say it packed more depth then other books I have read that were hundreds of pages long. I do however feel that some of the story could have been a bit for descriptive. I was missing some of that emotional turmoil that characters should feel. It was there, I just wish it went a bit deeper in the descriptive writing.
The settings and world development are note worthy too. From Ireland, Vikings and the life after. All were so descriptive. If that world building description was put to the depth of the characters it would be an amazing thing. The worlds were lush, inviting and, in some cases jarring (and rightfully so).
If you are all about simple, reflective reading then I highly recommend Her Children by Irina Shuranova

I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest and unbiased book review.
